Happenings In Gaza
January 6, 2009
The people of the Gaza Strip are dying by the hundreds now that Israel has mounted a ground incursion, as if the blocking of food, medicine, fuel, animal feed, supplies, and other basic necessities of Palestinian population weren’t degenerating enough. The media needs to make some nod to the Israeli blockades on Gaza. This war is a crime; and our collective humanity shall shrivel to tatters if we allow public understanding to take this course. I don’t condone the Hamas in the least but they will certainly gather more support from the Arab League, a fact that is unlikely to make a political solution to the conflict any easier.
I just read somewhere that “if someone throws a snowball at your house you don’t go outside and shoot him, even if you can do it and get away with it.” In essence, the firing of rockets is impotent compared to the casualties Israel is causing. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice needs to be in the field, having face-to-face conferences like President Nicolas Sarkozy of France is doing. I offer my applause to President Sarkozy; if only our Secretary of State would live up to her métier. And if only people knew of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, perhaps they would not be so impetuous to condemn.
